- 長崎縣美術館所提出的未來美術館的理念是「會呼吸的美術館」，打破美術館的既成觀念，一邊「呼吸」一邊大力激發都市和本地區的活力，力爭成為一個前所未有的嶄新的美術館 The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum opened in April 2005 with the basic concept of being a “Breathing Museum.” Just as living creatures breathe in and out, a museum can take in information and stimuli from outside and produce new kinds of stimuli while growing and developing through interactions with the surrounding community and environment.
- 綠意盎然的屋頂使用草坪進行綠化，與相鄰的「長崎水邊森林公園」的綠色相互呼應，可以在此欣賞長崎港的景色 The museum has attractive facilities, such as the greenery Roof Garden with lawns echoing the adjacent “Nagasaki Seaside Park”, which commands a panoramic view of Nagasaki Port.
- 美術館建築的最大特徵是以運河為中心，2 棟建築物橫跨運河兩邊，西棟為「畫廊棟」具備「開放」的功能，東棟則為「美術館棟」，有著傳統美術館「封閉」的功能 The biggest feature of the museum building is that it is centered on the canal. The museum is divided mainly into two buildings located across a canal from each other. The west building is the “Gallery Building” with an “open” function and the east building is the “Art Museum Building” with the “closed” function of a traditional art museum.
- 2F 連結 2 棟建築物的橋之迴廊設有咖啡廳，透過兩旁的玻璃帷幕，可以眺望波光粼粼的水面 There is a café in the bridge corridor on the 2F connecting the two buildings. The Café offers a magnificent view high above the canal.
- 擁有東亞數一數二的西班牙藝術品收藏 The museum’s Spain artworks collection is one of the largest in the East.
