Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property
Thatched Roof
The Takemura family served as village headmen for generations during the Edo period. While the exact construction date of this house is unclear, it is believed to date from the mid-Edo period (approximately 270 years ago). Equipped with a formal entrance platform, a privilege only granted to village headmen, and possessing a dignified exterior, this large-scale farmhouse was rare, with only one or two such houses in the village at the time. Towards the end of the Edo period, the houses of the village headman class in the Ina region changed to a shingle-roofed, traditional style, and large thatched-roof houses like this ceased to be built.
The relocation work was carried out under the guidance of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and based on meticulous research, the building was restored to its original appearance.
The former Takemura residence is a valuable farmhouse, a typical example of a mid-Edo period upper-class farmhouse in this region.
