薮原宿是木曽路上險峻的鳥居峠最近の宿場而繁榮，飛騨街道也在此與野麦峠交會通往飛騨，當年從飛騨前往岡谷和諏訪製糸場的女工，都會在薮原宿停留，購買「お六櫛」梳子，這項傳統仍延續至今 Yabuhara-juku flourished as the closest post town to Torii Pass, a difficult section of the Kiso Road. It is also where the Hida Kaido road crosses Nomugi Pass and leads to Hida, and factory girls heading from Hida to the silk mills in Okaya and Suwa would undoubtedly stop in Yabuhara-juku to buy the Oroku combs, a tradition that is still passed down today.
從江戶時代到明治時代，該地區遭受六次大火，雖然高聳的防火牆和寬闊的巷道依然存在，但宿場的遺跡已所剩無幾 The area suffered six major fires from the Edo period through the Meiji period, and although the high fire-prevention walls and wide alleys remain, very little remains of the post town.
