• 軍艦島位於長崎港約 19 km 的小島，正式名稱為「端島」，從西北看時島的形象與戰列艦「土佐」相似，江戸時代後期発見煤炭，自 1891 年起成為成熟的海底煤礦，為供給製鉄用優質煤炭 Gunkanjima located at a distance of 19 km from Nagasaki Port, and its official name is “Hashima”. Seeing from the northwest it was similar to a battleship “Tosa”. Coal was discovered on Gunkanjima in the late Edo period. Since 1891, it has been a full-fledged seabed coal mine supplying high-quality coking coal for steel manufacturing.
• 高島礦坑 (北溪井坑) 為日本首座引進西洋的技術與機械的西洋式礦坑，以蒸氣機關挖掘的竪坑是日本煤礦近代化的先驅技術，鄰近的端島礦坑、筑豐與三池煤礦等炭坑延續傳承此技術，奠定日本特有的煤炭礦業基礎，其產出的優質煤炭作為製鐵用的原料供應八幡製鐵所等，帶領製鐵、製鋼、造船等產業領域走向近代化 Hokkeiseiko was a first western-style coal pit in Japan that introduced western technologies and machinery. The first shaft powered by steam engines in Japan led to the modernization of coal pits in Japan. Later it was introduced to the nearby Hashima coal pit, Chikuho coal pit, and Miike coal pit. Besides, high-quality coal produced in the area supported the modernization in the iron-making, steel-making, and shipbuilding fields by being supplied as coking coal for iron-making to the Yahata Ironworks and other plants.

• 1. 泳池完工於 1958 年 The swimming pool was completed in 1958.
• 2. 30 号棟是日本最古老 (1916 年建造) 的鋼筋混凝土建築公寓，作為礦工住宅使用 Constructed in 1916, No. 30 Bldg. was Japan’s oldest reinforced concrete apartment building. It was used as a dormitory for miners.
