- 1988 年為防止十勝岳爆發產生的火山泥流，在美瑛川設置多處攔河堤，其中 1 座所形成的水池，因其青色的顏色而著稱，又稱「白金青池」、「美瑛白金青池」，搭配頹圮枯死的落葉松及白樺等，塑造出夢幻美池。Shirogane Blue Pond was made by accident, as the by-product of attempts to control mudslides. Aluminum that has seeped into the water scatters the sunlight causes the pond to look blue.
