南山手地區與東山手是同一個居留地，但主要是住宅區，位於俯瞰長崎灣的山丘上。The Minamiyamate district is the same settlement as Higashiyamate, but it is mainly a residential area and is located on a hill overlooking Nagasaki Bay.
保存地區涵蓋了南山手町的大部分地區，即外國人旧居留地，以及沿海的要所，明治時期的西洋建築保存完好。南山手町的北邊有建於1864年的大浦天主堂(国宝)和哥拉巴庭園，是長崎市的象徵。The conservation area is the area where the main points of the coastal area are added to most of Minamiyamatemachi, which is the lower land of the former settlement, and the Western-style residential construction of the Meiji era remains relatively good. To the north of Minamiyamatemachi, there are Oura Catholic Church (National Treasure) built in 1864 and Glover Garden, which are symbols of Nagasaki City.
