- 反射爐是鑄造鐵製大砲時必須的金屬熔解爐，是萩藩為加強海防力量而引進的設備之一。如今剩下的遺蹟，包括煙囪的一部分，上面堆有安山岩，高度為 10.5 m。根據藩的記載，反射爐曾於 1856 年暫時運作過，故推測萩反射爐屬於實驗用爐。如今，全日本僅存韮山(靜岡縣)和萩兩處遺蹟，在日本產業技術史上極為寶貴。The Hagi Domain made efforts to introduce the reverberatory furnace, a smelting furnace necessary for casting iron cannons, as part of the reinforcement of coastal defenses. The ruins remaining today includes portion of the chimney, piled up with andesite to a height of 10.5m. As we can confirm that the reverberatory furnace operated temporarily in 1856 from the record of the Hagi Domain, the Hagi Reverberatory Furnace is considered to be constructed experimentally. The ruins surviving today, which exist only in Nirayama (Shizuoka Pref.) and Hagi, are highly precious in the history of industrial technology in Japan.
