- 連接江戶和京都的中山道,因為它深入群山,所以也被稱為木曾街道。在中山道的 69 條路線中,離江戶第 42 條的妻籠宿位於中山道和伊那之間,它自古以來作為公路交會的交通要衝而繁榮昌盛。The Nakasendo, which connects Edo and Kyoto, was also called the Kisokaido because it runs deep in the mountains. Of the 69 routes on the Nakasendo, Tsumago-juku, which is the 42nd from Edo, is located between Nakasendo and Ina. It has been prosperous since ancient times as a key point of transportation where highways intersect.

- 1976 年被選為「重要伝統的建造物群保存地区」 – 木曾谷深山中的村莊和驛站景觀得以保存The townscape was selected as an “Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings” in 1976, and since then, along with nature and highways, the village and post town landscape in the deep mountainous Kiso Valley have been preserved.

人馬会所 Jinbakaisho (問屋場) Site of a Horse and Labor Exchange (Trade Station)
- 中山道の宿場町依法有義務為巡視的幕府官員提供馬匹和搬運工,這項工作被稱為「馬匹和搬運工交易站」The post towns on the Nakasendo had a legal obligation to furnish traveling government officials with horses and porters. This was the job of the jinbakaisho, which translates as something like “horse-and-labor exchange.”

- A. 熊谷家住宅 Kumagai Family Residence
- 一棟建於 19 世紀初的長屋 (連棟住宅) 的一部分,由於左右の建物被拆除重建,這棟長屋的左右兩半得以保留,並被用作一棟獨立的住宅 Part of a row house built in the early 19th century. Because the buildings on either side were demolished and rebuilt, the right and left halves of the row house remained and were used as a single house.

- B. 上嵯峨屋 Kamisagaya
- 這棟建築是妻籠宿最古老的建築物之一,推定建於 18 世紀中期,它保留了当時庶民の旅籠 (廉價旅館) 的大部分形式 This building is one of the oldest structures in Tsumago-juku, estimated to have been built in the mid-18th century. It retains much of the style of a typical inn (a cheap lodging house) used by common people at that time.

- 現存的民家中保留了一種較為古老的建築形式,推定建於 18 世紀中期 This building retains an older architectural style among the existing private houses in Tsumago-juku, and is estimated to have been built in the mid-18th century.

- 建築風格古樸典雅,與周圍的町並 (街景) 相得益彰。門前的黑色郵箱至今仍在使用 The Tsumago-juku Post Office has an old-fashioned design that blends in with the townscape. The black mailbox in front is still in use.
