- 網走監獄博物館是從明治時代起在網走監獄裡實際使用過的建築物予以保存、公開展示的戶外歷史博物館，最古老的建築物是在網走成立監獄的 6 年後、距今 120 年前建造的建築物，雖然同樣以木頭為建材，但與現在不同的是不使用機器進行的手工作業，在粗樑與柱子之上，仍留有受刑人們粗略地刨削過後的痕跡 The Abashiri Prison Museum is an outdoor museum of history. Buildings that have been for the Abashiri Prison since the Meiji era (1868–1912) are preserved and open to the public. The oldest building was constructed about 120 years ago, 6 years after the Abashiri Prison was established. Logs were sawed into boards by inmates without using machinery, so you can see the rough finish on the surface of the thick beams and pillars.

- 歷史館主要展示的是，以中央道路的開鑿為主題的影像展示，左、右及前方的 3 面螢幕所放映的是，如同時間跳躍般地回到 1 世紀前極為嚴苛的道路開發現場的實境影像。敬請用您的五感，欣賞體感劇場「赤色囚徒之森」(影片時間: 7 分、5 國語言放映）The Penological Museum features images projected on three screens. The images show how inmates built Central Road, which connects Abashiri to Sapporo. The images of grueling construction work give a realistic sensation, transporting you a century back in time. Please use all of your five senses to see the virtual prison movie titled “Forests Where Inmates in a Red Prison Uniform Worked” (screen time: 7 min.; languages available: 5)
