- 2010 年在日本國內留存的蠶種儲藏風穴中，荒船風穴與中之條町的東谷風穴一起，首先被指定為日本國家級歷史遺址 National historical site Remains of the Arafune Silkworm Egg Cold Storage (Facilities) Along with the Azumaya Cold Storage (facilities) of Nakanojo-machi, the Arafune Cold Storage (facilities) were designated national historical sites in 2010; these were the first silkworm egg cold storage facilities remaining in Japan to win such a designation.
- 荒船風穴利用岩縫間冬天的積雪，冷風從縫隙中吹過便形成適於儲存蠶卵的低溫環境，革新的冷藏蠶種 (蠶卵) 技術，也是日本國內最大規模的儲藏設施，從原本只能在春天一次的養蠶活動，透過調整蠶種的孵化時期，可一年多次繁育養蠶 The cool air in the storage is produced by wind passing through rock crevices filled with snow accumulated over winter. Arafune Cold Storage owned the largest storage capacity. With these facilities, people involved in the sericulture industry at that time were able to control the time that silkworm eggs hatched, making it possible to hatch several batches of eggs a year compared to one a year (spring) done since olden times.
