- 富岡制絲廠是在 1872 年明治政府爲日本的近代化建立的模範器械製絲廠。政府爲把日本變成同外國同等的立場，明治維新以後進行了産業以及科學技術的近代化。爲此，把生絲的出口作爲收集資金的一種方式。政府爲改進生絲的品質、提高生産和培育技術指導者決定做擁有歐式缫絲機的國営模範工廠 Tomioka Silk Mill is a model mechanized silk-reeling factory established by the Meiji government in 1872 for the modernization of Japan. After the Meiji Restoration, the government pushed forward the modernization of industry and sciences in order to put Japan in a position of equality with foreign countries. The industry in which the governement put the most effort to gather the founds necessary for this task was raw silk export. The government decided to establish a national model factory equipped with Western silk-reeling machines in order to improve raw silk quality, to raise production and train technical supervisors. 富岡製絲廠這樣被建立，直到現在爲止依舊保持不變的姿態 This is how Tomioka Silk Mill was built and it remains today in an almost perfect condition.
主要建築物 Tomioka Silk Mill main buildings
- 由木頭組成骨架，利用紅磚塊 (赤煉瓦) 砌成牆壁所建造出的名為”木材骨架磚瓦結構”「木骨煉瓦造」的西洋建築方法來建造的 The main buildings were constructed by integrating Japanese and European technologies, using a European technique of timber-frame and brick construction that piles a wall of bricks against wooden frames and incorporating Japanese tiles on the roofs.

- 用手動收卷器將絲從繭中取出，進行線軸裝飾，同時將絲繞在木框上，完成後可帶回家 Take the thread out of the cocoons with a hand-reeling apparatus, make a reel decoration while winding the thread around a wooden frame and take it back home with you.
