• 正式名稱叫慈照寺，是相國寺的塔頭寺院之一。據說銀閣寺的名稱源於江戶時代，與同在京都的「金閣寺」(正式名稱為「鹿苑寺」) 相呼應 Ginkaku-ji’s official name is Jisho-ji, an affiliate temple of Shokoku-ji Temple. Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion) was so named in the Edo Period in contrast with Kinkaku-ji (Gold Pavilion). 1952 年慈照寺的庭園被日本政府指定為特別史跡和特別名勝，1994 年慈照寺作為「古都京都的文化財」的一部分，被列入世界遺產名錄 The garden is designated national historical site and special scenic spot. Ginkakuji Temple is designated to UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 as a part of Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto.

国宝 National Treasure

• 1. 観音殿 銀閣 Kannonden Ginkaku
• 建築結構為雙層，底層為心空殿，上層是潮音閣。繼鹿苑寺の舎利殿、西芳寺の瑠璃殿之後，唯一現存室町時期の楼閣庭園建築の代表建造物 The first floor is the Heart Hollow Hall, and the second floor is the Chaoyin Pavilion. It is famous as the only surviving Muromachi period tower garden architecture, following the Shariden (Kinkaku) of Rokuonji and the Ruriden of Saihoji.
• 2. 東求堂 Togudo
• 與観音殿 (銀閣) 為東山殿造営当時の現存遺構，日本書院造和草庵茶室的發源建築，所以被視為日本建築史上的寶貴遺產 Said to be the oldest tearoom in Japan, its simple but classic design served as a model for many future tearooms. Built at the same time as the Silver Pavilion’s Kannon-den, the Togu-do is a national treasure, a rare extant remnant of Ashikaga Yoshimitsu’s construction at the time.
